A broken or decayed tooth can cause discomfort, interfere with chewing and speaking, and make you feel self-conscious about your smile.
Dr. Jose Valenzuela places strong, natural-looking dental crowns to restore damaged teeth. He also places implant-supported crowns to replace lost teeth.
So what makes a dental crown a great choice?

A dental crown can perform a variety of restorative and cosmetic functions, reinforcing the structure of a damaged tooth and restoring its appearance. A crown can also replace a missing tooth in combination with a dental implant. At Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry Center, we can craft a custom porcelain or zirconia crown, designed to blend seamlessly with your smile and provide long-lasting results. Dr. Jose Valenzuela, Jr. has been practicing in Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico, for over 25 years and can implement gentle yet effective techniques to ensure your comfort.
A dental crown is a cap, designed to cover the visible portion of a tooth. It can add strength to a tooth compromised by damage or decay and beauty to a tooth that is discolored or misshapen. We may recommend a dental crown if you have:
In some cases, Dr. Valenzuela will also place a crown for cosmetic reasons. If you have severe discoloration that cannot be addressed with teeth whitening, a crown may be an effective solution. During your consultation at our practice, we can review your unique dental needs and cosmetic goals to determine whether a crown is the best treatment for you.
When a dental crown must be fabricated at a dental lab away from your dentist's office, the process can take two weeks or longer. Dr. Valenzuela uses the latest technology to provide same-day crowns. This option allows you to arrive at our office with a compromised smile and leave with completely restored comfort, function, and aesthetics.
If Dr. Valenzuela determines that an all-porcelain crown is the right solution for your needs, he can create a same-day crown to restore your smile. However, materials such as zirconia require a longer fabrication process. During your consultation, Dr. Valenzuela can recommend the type of crown that will provide you with the best and longest-lasting benefits.
The same-day crown process is made possible through CAD/CAM technology – computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing.
Same-day crowns offer several advantages:
The same-day crown process is made possible through CAD/CAM technology – computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing. To begin the treatment process, Dr. Valenzuela will prepare the tooth. This involves removing any existing decay and slightly reducing the tooth structure.
Next, digital impressions will be taken using our intraoral scanner. If you are receiving a crown to restore a dental implant, this technology will be used to take an impression of the implant and surrounding teeth. The images that are captured by this handheld wand will be sent to our computer software program, which we will use to design your new restoration. Once approved by Dr. Valenzuela, these images will be sent to our in-office milling machine, which will craft your new crown while you wait. Once the restoration is complete, Dr. Valenzuela will check the fit, make any necessary adjustments, and bond your new crown into place.
For your comfort, we can begin treatment by administering a local anesthetic. For patients with dental anxiety or phobia, we also offer sedation dentistry to put you at ease during your procedure. Once you are completely numb, we can reshape your tooth in preparation for your dental crown. This step is necessary, as it ensures the crown will fit comfortably in your smile, without disrupting your bite.
At Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry Center, we can craft a custom porcelain or zirconia crown, designed to blend seamlessly with your smile.
After prepping your tooth, we can take impressions. If you are receiving a traditional crown, the impressions will be sent to our trusted laboratory. We can also provide the lab with detailed information regarding the shade of your restoration, and any additional measurements. Over the next two weeks, laboratory technicians can custom-craft your restoration using porcelain or zirconia. In the interim, we can place a temporary cap to prevent sensitivity. Once the final crown is finished, you can return to our office to have it placed. Dr. Valenzuela can check to ensure a proper fit, before cementing it securely to your tooth. Once complete. you can enjoy restored dental function and feel confident in the appearance of your smile.
Though Dental Implant Center mostly places porcelain crowns and bridges, patients can also choose to have their restorations made from zirconia. We invite you to take a closer look at what these options can provide:
Widely lauded among cosmetic and restorative dentists, porcelain is very often used for crowns and bridges because of its aesthetic appeal. Porcelain, like natural tooth enamel, is translucent; this means that some light is allowed to pass through its surface rather than simply reflecting off of it. Also, the shape and size of the crowns and bridges can be customized to blend in with the surrounding teeth. Dental Implant Center typically uses Lumineer® Veneers, which are second to none in terms of beauty and durability.
If you need a dental crown, but you do not want it to be clearly visible, you may be a great candidate for zirconium crowns. Unlike alternative options, zirconium crowns can be placed anywhere in the mouth, and have the strength and durability to withstand the biting pressure of the front and back teeth. Additionally, crowns made from zirconia are very natural-looking, and blend seamlessly with your smile. With metal crowns, the metal is clearly visible when light reflects off it. Another added benefit of zirconium crowns is that zirconia reflects light in much the same way as natural tooth enamel does.
At Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry Center, we strive to provide our patients with the highest quality care. As such, we incorporate only the most durable and realistic materials into our treatments. As opposed to metal, porcelain and zirconia provide lifelike results. Porcelain is often chosen for its aesthetic appeal, as it can be matched to the sheen and translucency of your smile. Zirconia is one of the strongest materials in dentistry and can be placed on either the front or back teeth. Because our crowns do not have an underlying metal base, they will not darken or change color over time, providing long-lasting results.
