Periodontics in Los Algodones:

Let Periodontics Improve Your Smile

Our Los Algodones dental office has an on-site periodontist who can help improve your smile in several ways:

Treat Gum Disease

Gum disease is a dangerous condition that starts at the gums and can spread throughout the mouth and body. When at-home dental care isn’t enough to reverse your gum disease, periodontics can stop the condition from progressing and correct any damage it has done.

Restore Oral Function

Periodontal disease can cause sensitivity, pain, loose teeth, root canal infections, and tooth loss. Our dental services can address your specific concerns to alleviate your symptoms and put you on track for improved oral function.

Enhance Your Smile

Gum recession can expose your tooth roots, making you feel self-conscious about your smile. An asymmetrical gum line can make your smile seem unbalanced. Our periodontist can correct these concerns to give you a beautiful, healthy smile you feel confident sharing.

Periodontics Made Comfortable

We know that the last thing you want to endure is uncomfortable treatment when you’ve been dealing with painful periodontal disease or a gummy smile. Our Los Algodones office does everything it can to make treatment comfortable.

1. Soft Tissue Diode Lasers

Our Los Algodones periodontist uses a soft tissue diode laser to improve the appearance of gummy smiles, as well as uneven gumlines. This laser precisely and effectively removes gum tissue for a more balanced appearance. As the laser works, it simultaneously seals the soft tissues, which makes the procedure more comfortable and aids in faster healing.

2. Sedation Dentistry

If you’re nervous about treatment, our Los Algodones team can provide you with IV sedation. This method of sedation takes effect quickly and can be adjusted throughout your treatment, giving you exactly what you need to relax as you receive your dental care. It may even keep you from remembering your time in the dental chair.

Gum Disease Treatment Los Algodones

Taking care of your gums is an essential part of your oral hygiene. Gum care starts at home, with a daily hygiene routine that includes flossing to clean below the gum line. Your dentist and hygienist will monitor the health of your gums and can recommend the best gum disease treatment options if they detect signs of inflammation or periodontal (gum) disease.

What is Periodontal (Gum) Disease?

Gum disease is a progressive disease that breaks down the gum tissue and bone surrounding your teeth. It is caused by bacteria in plaque and dental calculus. If left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss and contribute to other systemic health problems, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and dementia.

According to the Canadian Dental Association, 7 in 10 adults will experience gum disease in their lifetime. The good news is gum disease is preventable and can be reversed if it’s caught early enough.

Our Periodontal Services

Antibiotics

In its earlier stages, gum disease may be treated with a good at-home dental care routine, routine cleanings with a dentist, and topical antibiotics. However, antibiotics are typically used in combination with other dental treatments.

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a periodontal treatment that removes plaque and bacteria from above and below the gumline. This dental procedure promotes a healthy environment for healing and allows the gums to reattach to the teeth.

Grafting

Gum grafting is a periodontal procedure that corrects gum recession by taking gum tissue from a healthy area of the mouth and using it to conceal exposed tooth roots. We can also restore lost bone density with bone grafting.

Dental Implants

If your periodontal disease has resulted in tooth loss, our dentist can place dental implants to support restorations like crowns, bridges, and dentures to improve your oral function and stop jawbone recession in its tracks.

Gum Contouring

If you have an asymmetrical gumline or a gumline that shows too much or too little of your teeth, our dentist can use cosmetic gum contouring to reshape it. Reshaping the gum tissue around your teeth can create an attractive, balanced smile you’ll feel confident showing off.

Additional Information

Early Signs of Gum Disease (Gingivitis)

Signs of early gum disease, or gingivitis, include red, swollen gums. Your gums may also be tender or bleeding. It’s important to note that gum disease is often a silent disease – many people don’t notice any symptoms until it’s in its more advanced stages.

Symptoms of periodontal (gum) disease:

  • Red, swollen or sore gums
  • Receding gums
  • Bad breath
  • Pain when chewing
  • Loose or sensitive teeth

You can treat gingivitis at home by eating a healthy diet, brushing your teeth at least twice a day and flossing daily. This will help reduce harmful bacteria in your mouth and give your gums a chance to recover.

Although you can brush away plaque, calculus (hardened plaque) can only be removed by your dental hygienist. Be sure to keep up with regular professional dental cleanings to keep hard-to-reach areas free of bacteria. Most people should get their teeth professionally cleaned at least every six months. Your hygienist may recommend more frequent cleanings depending on the condition of your teeth and gums.

50 Years of Expertise. Thousands of Confident Smiles.

By far the most professional dental clinic in Los Algodones. I’m an American from Indiana and like most had scary thoughts crossing the border. I felt very safe here and the team at Cosmetic & Implant dentistry center took great care of me and the other patients I encountered here. A driver picked me up daily for my appointments. Mike helped me arrange my travel and stay and they spoke fluent English and even took time to ensure their work was perfection. Thank you for giving me a smile I can be proud of again.

They understood us. They spoke English. Their equipment was top-of-the-line. They were efficient and they were very good. I don’t think I’ve had such a good teeth cleaning. I would totally recommend going to fixing smiles my friend and I were very pleased.

I had complete implants done here, top and bottom, about 3 years ago. They changed my life. The dentist and his crew were top notch, better care than USA dentists honestly. They did the work for far less than half of what it would have cost Stateside...
