What Are Invisalign Clear Aligners?
If you are considering orthodontic care but wish to avoid visible metal braces, Invisalign treatment can provide a discreet, comfortable, and effective alternative. This system uses removable clear aligners to reposition your teeth over time. At our Los Algodones, Mexico, dental clinic, Dr. Jose Valenzuela, Jr. can carefully design your aligners to ensure a comfortable fit, accurate treatment plan, and stunning results. He can help you achieve a smile you can feel confident in - as well as improved dental health - in just 12 to 18 months.
Are You a Good Candidate for Clear Aligners?
During your consultation at our Los Algodones, Mexico, dental practice, Dr. Valenzuela can review your treatment goals and your oral health to determine if Invisalign is right for you. He may request digital x-rays for a more comprehensive view of your teeth, gums, and jawbone.
To qualify for Invisalign or any other cosmetic service, you should also be in good oral health. If Dr. Valenzuela detects signs of gum disease or tooth decay, he can perform appropriate treatment before proceeding with clear aligners.
Invisalign treatment can treat a range of orthodontic issues, including:

The Treatment Process
If you decide to proceed with treatment at our Los Algodones practice, Dr. Valenzuela can take digital impressions of your teeth using an advanced 3-D scanner. Using these images, he can design an entire series of aligners to achieve your specific goals. We can then send your impressions to a trusted Invisalign laboratory, where your aligner trays will be fabricated.
Because they are clear, Invisalign trays are almost impossible to detect, even from a close distance.
To ensure your treatment progresses efficiently, we can provide you with a series of aligner trays, which will exert a gentle pressure on your teeth. Typically, you will wear each aligner for two weeks before graduating to the next set in your series. The full course of treatment will vary depending upon the extent of your dental misalignment. On average, however, patients can typically expect to see final results in about 12 months. This treatment timeline is often significantly shorter than that of traditional braces.
The Benefits of Invisalign
Due to its notable advantages, Invisalign has become a popular orthodontic treatment amongst teens and adults. Its benefits include:
- Subtlety: Because they are clear, Invisalign trays are almost impossible to detect, even from a close distance. Therefore, you do not have to worry about feeling self-conscious during treatment.
- Comfort: Invisalign trays are also more comfortable than standard braces. First, they exert less pressure on teeth and do not need to be readjusted. Secondly, they are smooth, so they will not irritate the inside of your cheeks.
- Convenience: You can remove your aligner trays to eat and brush your teeth. As such, you will not have any dietary restrictions during treatment. You can also maintain your daily hygiene regimen.
- Effectiveness: Most importantly, Invisalign is a highly effective treatment that can have comparable results to braces. With properly aligned teeth, you are less likely to suffer from dental erosion, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) Disorder, and related concerns.
Invisalign can help you achieve your ideal smile, rejuvenating your appearance and improving your quality of life.
Invisalign versus Braces
While traditional metal braces have been an effective orthodontic option for many years, some patients, especially adults and teens, are averse to them since they are noticeable when smiling. Invisalign®, however, involves clear, removable aligners that discreetly shift your teeth into place. If you are not sure which treatment option is suited to your unique needs, Dr. Jose Valenzuela, Jr. in Los Algodones can explain the differences.
The Invisalign® system is the subtle alternative to metal braces, as it gently straightens your teeth using a series of clear, removable aligners.
How Traditional Braces Work
Traditional braces consist of metal brackets that are attached to each tooth, a bonding or band that attaches the bracket to the tooth, and the archwire, which connects the different brackets and exerts a light pressure, thus effectively moving your teeth into their proper alignment.
Patients need to wear braces 24 hours a day, everyday, for about two years, to achieve desired results. Typically, patients will need to visit the office every month, to check the fit of the braces, and make necessary adjustments.
Apart from being conspicuous, traditional braces are disliked by some patients since the wires and brackets can cause discomfort. Metal braces also impede patients from eating certain hard or sticky foods.
Traditional braces, however, are more effective than their orthodontic alternatives in addressing complex alignment issues. Also, they do not require additional cleaning, apart from regular twice-a-day brushing and flossing.
