Dental Crowns

Broken or decayed teeth can cause discomfort, interfere with dental function, and make you feel self-conscious about your smile.

Dental crowns are a type of dental work that can improve the health and appearance of damaged teeth.

Dr. Jose Valenzuela offers custom crowns at his Los Algodones, Mexico, dental clinic for a fraction of the cost compared to the U.S.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown (also referred to as a dental cap) fits over a broken tooth to protect it from damage and minimize sensitivity. Porcelain and zirconia crowns are durable and incredibly lifelike. In fact, they are virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

You could benefit from a dental crown at our Algodones, Mexico, practice if you have:

  • Severe decay
  • A tooth that offsets your bite
  • A cracked tooth
  • A worn tooth
  • A missing tooth
  • A need for root canal therapy

How Is a Crown Placed?

You may be a little anxious about having dental work done in Mexico, but crown placement in Los Algodones is held to the same standards as it is in the United States.
Dr. Valenzuela prides himself on taking the utmost care with each and every patient.

Consultation

During an exam at our Los Algodones office, we can discuss your concerns, goals, and what type of dental work is recommended. In some cases, we might need to perform root canal therapy before your crown is placed.

Preparation

After the area has been numbed, your dentist will remove any existing decay and reshape your tooth to make room for the crown. We offer sedation if you are feeling anxious.

Impressions

Next, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth using our intraoral scanner. These impressions will be used to create your restoration.

Fabrication

If you're receiving a traditional crown, your impressions will be sent to a lab where your porcelain or zirconia restoration will be created over the course of two weeks. Many times, though, we can create your crown in a single appointment while you wait.

Placement

Once your permanent crown is ready, it will be secured to your tooth with dental cement.

Same-Day Dental Crowns

Instead of waiting two weeks for a traditional crown to be made, our Los Algodones office in Mexico has CAD/CAM technology that allows us to create same-day porcelain crowns. This means you won't have to wear a temporary crown or wait for your crown to be created in a lab.

Keep in mind that zirconia crowns take longer to create than porcelain. You and your dentist can determine which material is best for your needs.

A same-day crown at our Los Algodones, Mexico, dental clinic typically costs between $450 and $850. In contrast, a porcelain crown made at a laboratory in the United States can cost anywhere between $800 and $3,000.

Dental Crowns

Implant-Supported Crowns

If you have missing teeth, consider having implant-supported crowns placed. This option is better than traditional bridges because even though bridges replace the visible portion of missing teeth, they don't replace tooth roots.

At our office in Los Algodones, Mexico, we can place dental implants at the site of missing or extracted teeth. These dental implants can then support a dental crown, filling the gap and restoring your smile and dental function. Dental implants also stimulate your jawbone, stopping the atrophy that results from tooth loss.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening can be used for aesthetic purposes, but it might also be necessary prior to crown placement.

In order to support a crown, a sufficient amount of your tooth must be intact. Crown lengthening with our dentist in Algodones removes gum tissue to expose more of your tooth above the gumline. In some instances, some bone tissue may also have to be removed. This will allow for the placement of a crown if your tooth is broken or was affected by decay.

The best dentist and service I have ever had. I now have the perfect teeth and smile I have wanted for years. Don’t hesitate to have your smile back. It is very easy to park and walk across the border. Just a few minutes to the office. They employ the latest technology including CT scan and digital scans of your teeth and mouth to produce crowns. I had a complete restoration consisting of 3 implants and 26 crowns. Thank you Dr. Cota and Dr. Valenzuela.
