Beautiful and Durable Materials for Your Restoration
Porcelain Dental Crowns and Dental Bridges Los Algodones
The evolution of dentistry has yielded a variety of materials, including porcelain, ceramic, and metal, that are used to craft dental restorations such as crowns and bridges. Though Dental Implant Center mostly places porcelain crowns and bridges at our Los Algodones practice, patients do have a choice in restoration materials. Learn more about your available options, and contact Dental Implant Center to schedule a consultation to discuss your individual needs and how we can best serve you.
Porcelain
Widely lauded among cosmetic and restorative dentists, porcelain is very often used for crowns and bridges because of its aesthetic appeal. Porcelain, like natural tooth enamel, is translucent; this means that some light is allowed to pass through its surface rather than simply reflecting off of it. Also, the shape and size of the crowns and bridges can be customized to blend in with the surrounding teeth. Dental Implant Center typically uses Ivoclar Vivadent® veneers, which are second to none in terms of beauty and durability.
Ceramic
Ceramic crowns and bridges are very natural looking, and are typically placed on the front teeth. The exact shade and size of the crowns can be custom-matched to blend in seamlessly with existing teeth. Ceramic materials are not as strong as metal or porcelain fused to metal, so they are not usually recommended for placement on the back teeth, which are subject to a lot of pressure from chewing.
Metal
Metal crowns and bridges - composed of gold alloy, palladium, nickel alloy, or chromium alloy - are normally placed on teeth that are located toward the back of the mouth and therefore not as noticeable. Metal crowns and bridges require less removal of natural tooth structure than other materials and are extremely durable.
